Mark 1:12-20 "The Temptation, Proclamation, and Invitation of Jesus"
Welcome to Week 3 of our yearlong journey through the Gospel of Mark at Ascend Bible Church! This week, we dive into Mark 1:12–20, where we encounter the beginning of Jesus’ earthly ministry.
Temptation:
Jesus is driven by the Spirit into the wilderness, where He faces Satan’s temptations for 40 days. In this "trial by fire," He proves His obedience and trust in the Father, overcoming where others have fallen.
Proclamation:
After John’s arrest, Jesus begins His ministry with a bold message:
“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.”
This statement marks a decisive moment in history, challenging us to consider what the kingdom of God means and how we respond.
Invitation:
Walking along the Sea of Galilee, Jesus calls Simon, Andrew, James, and John with these life-altering words: “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” Their immediate and radical response reminds us that Jesus calls us not based on our worthiness but through His grace, transforming our lives and purpose.
This message is a powerful reminder that Jesus lived up to who He claimed to be—the Son of God, the one who withstands temptation, proclaims truth, and calls us to follow Him.
If you're in a wilderness season or seeking to understand what it means to follow Jesus, this sermon is for you. Discover how Jesus meets you where you are and calls you to life in Him.
