Jonah 1

Aug 18, 2024    Mitch Green

This message kicks off our journey through the book of Jonah—a story you might know, but have you ever really read it? Jonah is more than a tale about a prophet and a fish; it’s a powerful narrative that reveals God’s character, His purpose, and ultimately points us toward Jesus.

In today’s sermon, we explore how Jonah reflects many of the struggles we face in following God’s call. Like Jonah, we often resist when God asks us to go places we don’t want to go and love people who are difficult to love. Jonah’s journey is one of running from God’s call—and finding himself in the belly of a fish.

Big Idea: God will call you to go places you don’t want to go and love people who are hard to love.

Throughout this series, we’ll see how Jonah serves as a mirror for our own lives—revealing moments of pride, judgment, and disobedience. Join us as we ask God to remove these things from our hearts and help us walk faithfully in His call.

Let’s dive into God’s Word together and trust that He will use this series to refine us to look more like Him.

Prayer Prompts:

God, where are You calling me?

Where have I run away instead of obeying?

Lord, remove in me whatever keeps me from following You faithfully.

Join us for this timely message, and let’s lay everything before the Lord—our fears, frustrations, and resistance—and ask Him to shape us into people who reflect His heart.
